WILLCOR works at many levels of manufacturing and we have observed and documented many best practices. The use of subcontractors is an attractive and often necessary business practice to obtain the best product at the lowest price. One area that recurs as a risk is poorly implemented source inspection in secondary and lower tier subcontractors. Of particular concern is low volume production such as typically found in aerospace and defense industries. This paper addresses those concerns and provides recommendations.
